The Process


After your test has been reported to your physician, DermTech will submit our laboratory claim for the PLA test to your insurance company on your behalf.

Explanation of Benefits

After processing your claim, your insurance company will likely send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). The EOB is not a bill. You should review and contact our billing department with any questions.


If your insurance company does not cover all or a portion of the cost of the test, we will appeal the decision on your behalf.

Patient Portion

Once your insurance company finalizes your claim, DermTech will send you a bill with any patient responsibility.

DermTech offers financial assistance to reduce out-of-pocket costs for qualified underinsured patients in the United States.

Examples of patients who may be considered underinsured include:

Patients with a high deductible or out-of-pocket expenses

Patients with an insurance policy that does not cover DermTech laboratory services.

DermTech offers cash pricing for individuals without medical benefits.

Why did I receive a bill from DermTech?

Your physician selected DermTech laboratory based on our unique test for melanoma using the adhesive skin collection kit. Your bill from DermTech usually pertains to a deductible or copayment for this service.

Why did I receive a bill from a laboratory?

If you received a bill from DermTech, it is because we provided pathology laboratory services to your physician on your behalf.

What do I do if I receive a check from my insurance provider?

If your insurance provider forwards you or the policy holder a check for DermTech services: Please sign the back of the check, write “Payable to DermTech” and forward the check to DermTech. Please include a copy of your EOB along with your check. The money paid by your insurance provider is due to DermTech upon receipt. Please contact our Billing Care Team if you have additional questions regarding the check and or EOB at 1-866-450-4223 x 155.
